American Music Center

The American Music Center (AMC) is dedicated to building a national community of artists, organizations and audiences creating, performing and enjoying new American music.  Since its founding in 1939 by composers Marion Bauer, Aaron Copland, Howard Hanson, Harrison Kerr, Otto Luening and Quincy Porter, AMC has been a leader in providing field-wide advocacy, support and connection.  AMC advocates for the community through NewMusicBox, its award-winning web magazine, and CounterstreamRadio, a 24-hour online station broadcasting music by a broad range of United States composers.  AMC supports the community by making grants to composers and ensembles each year, and by offering professional development programs for artists.  AMC connects the community with an array of information services designed to facilitate performances, including the AMC Online Library, a vast, searchable database of 45,000 works by American composers; publications compiling opportunities in new music and other information useful to industry professionals; and benefits and services for nearly 2,500 members in all fifty states around the world.

National Performance Network

The National Performance Network (NPN) was founded in 1984 as a project of Dance Theater Workshop and incorporated in 1998 as an independent 501(c)(3), now based in New Orleans.  NPN is a group of diverse cultural organizers, including artists, working to create meaningful partnerships and to provide leadership that enables the practice and public experience of the contemporary arts in the U.S.  As a nationwide network, NPN functions as an applied learning community.  NPN's resources currently support and connect 61 performing arts organizations, called NPN Partners, and 15 Visual Artists Network Partners across 28 states and 44 cities.  The NPN constituency ranges from two-person operations to multi-million dollar arts centers.  NPN Partners are ethnically, culturally and stylistically diverse and reflect a cross-section of urban, suburban and rural communities that are generally under-represented.  Regardless of size and community served, all NPN and VAN Partners support a mix of programs designed to create, commission, tour, present and provide training in the arts.  NPN and VAN Partners have total curatorial freedom; the national office does not participate in artist selection for our partner organizations.
